Education, Training, & Experience
I am Board Certified in Behavioral & Cognitive Psychology, having expertise in CBT. I was vetted by the American Board of Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology (ABBCP), a member board of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). I am currently the only board certified CBT psychologist in Queens County who sees patients in private practice. I devote my time to private practice and a research and training grant for trauma-focused CBT and developmental disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorders.
I received my PhD in Clinical and School Psychology from Hofstra University under the mentorship of Mitchell L. Schare, PhD, ABPP. At Hofstra University, I was the Clinic Coordinator for the Phobia and Trauma Clinic (formerly the Virtual Reality Clinic). While studying for my doctorate, I completed two internships, one in clinical psychology at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, NY, and another in school psychology in the Fort Lee, NJ School District Child Study Team. During my school internship, I had the opportunity to conduct assessments and counsel children from kindergarten through high school. Throughout my clinical internship, I worked as a diagnostician in the emergency room, and conducted individual and group therapies for people admitted to the psychiatric hospital.
I was completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University's Clinic for Anxiety and Related Disorders (CUCARD) under the supervision of Anne Marie Albano, PhD, ACT, ABPP. I gained extensive experience using CBT with children and adults. During my fellowship, I worked for the New York Office of Mental Health’s Evidence Based Treatment Dissemination Center (EBTDC) to consult with 200+ clinicians learning to conduct parenting skill enhancement and treat ADHD and ODD.
After my fellowship, I worked as a licensed psychologist at Kings County Hospital Center, where I conducted functional behavior analysis (FBA), designed individualized behavioral interventions, collaborated in curriculum development, and provided staff training. I also supervised the clinical work of doctoral candidates in psychology, behavior analysts, and paraprofessional staff. I also have experience working as a school psychologist in BOCES, the NY State Special Education Schools, where I conducted CBT-informed school counseling as well as psychoeducational assessments. I am currently working on a research grant at Northwell Health's Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Division. funded by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). We are disseminating evidence based treatments for trauma in youth, and adapting the treatrments for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities.
My research on anxiety, trauma, and high-tech interventions such as virtual reality exposure therapy, reducing harmful behaviors, and phonological issues in reading have been presented at local, regional, national, and international conferences. I keep current with research by reading mental health journals.
I am on the editorial board of the ABCT Journal Cognitive & Behavioral Practice and am also a reviewer for journals including The British Journal of Psychiatry, New Media & Society, and the International Journal of Developmental Disabilities.
I have been working in the field of mental health since 2000 in various capacities. Before receiving my PhD, I served as a research assistant, case manager, research study clinician, consultant school psychologist, psychoeducational assessor, and psychotherapist.
