Services for Couples
Couples Therapy
To help you improve your relationship, I can help you rekindle romance, improve your communication skills, reduce recurrent conflicts, and improve emotional and physical intimacy. Improving these skills can reduce marital distress. As a couple, you and your partner will learn to accept one another, and help one another grow and flourish as individuals and together as a unit. Couples therapy may be appropriate for those dating, in long-term relationships, engaged or married. Couples therapy can also be an effective way to treat depression.
Couples counseling can be beneficial at many times during a relationship. Many of my clients have found it helpful when they are dating, engaged, getting married, or even considering divorce.
Couples therapy involves two phases, similar to individual and group psychotherapy. The evaluation phase includes interviews and questionnaires directed to help the psychologist learn about the couples' relationship. Following a feedback session, psychotherapy involves focusing on the themes that cut across conflicts, as well as times when the couple is able to discuss difficult topics without getting into arguments. The therapy is usually present focused, to enable couples to work through their current difficulties.
Sex Therapy
Sex therapy may be appropriate for individuals or couples who experience problems with one or more aspects of intimacy -- desire, arousal, orgasm or pain. Sexual problems are considered a difficulty for both members of a couple, as opposed to being anyone's "fault." You will learn to communicate your sexual beliefs and concerns and compassionately learn about your partner's needs. I will teach you strategies to improve your sexual performance and satisfaction, as well as to have realistic expectations. Some sexual difficulties are related to performance anxiety, which may be a manifestation of social anxiety disorder or body image concerns.
